La Tele Holandesa / The Dutch TV

Something I call "English Version" is below (just look this color text :-)),

Buenas,

------------------ English Version ------------------

Hi,

I have to tell this to someone (Guess what? It's you!) cause I'm flipping since yesterday...

Yesterday, in the afternoon, while I was doing some stuff with Ubuntu (I have embraced "The dark side":-)) I decided to watch some TV... I have several international channels (French TV5MONDE and English-speaking BBC and CNN)... But, as I'm new and I want to experience "The Dutch Way" I decided to stay in one of the Dutch channels...

The beginning was great: they were airing a documentary (in English) called "Mission Accomplished" and it was the testimony of a British journalist in Iraq just after President Bush pronounced that phrase... Really interesting (I learned tons of stuff)...

Point is the documentary ended and I decided to stay in that channel...

That's where I discovered "Matrix"...

There's a Dutch girl (sort of "Punk" with piercings and red-pinked hair) speaking... In dutch... I don't speak dutch but I continue watching to her trying to get a pattern from the language: my English and my small notions of German and I already keep in my brain could be useful to try to understand to her...

No way: I don't understand anything but, I think she's explaining some stuff about the city and the houses here...

"I think she's explaining how to find a house or a flat in Amsterdam" I say to myself and I then try to increase my attention as, in the future, I will need to find one flat for me...

She goes then to a house and she puts something in the door... Then, she takes her keys and open it, provoking the fall of the stuff she put on it... I think she wants to show a method to know if there are people entering and going out of the house...

On step number 3, the girl goes to the city registry (or a property registry or something like that: I don't understand it) leaving the place with some papers... She shows them to the camera: I think she wants to explain there's a house somewhere and in that way she can know who's the owner...

But things turn weird on step number four...

Next scene freaks me out: She joins some people similar to her (punks or something like that) and they go supposedly to the house she showed up in the papers... They got a screw, a hammer, a bar of steel and... They illegally occupy it!!!

I'm watching on television how to illegally occupy a house in Amsterdam! The guys didn't even hide their faces: they broke the door and they went in (BTW: i learned how to say "occupy a home" in Dutch "Kraak")...

The guys also show you to do it via television and they even have a Website (I don't remember the address) where they explain who they are and the things they do (I think in the place where they entered they wanted to do a sort of rec-center or something like that: I've no idea)...

I'm flipping with the dutches: they are tremendous...

I'd like to tell you this to illustrate one thing: remember is in The Netherlands where, 12 or 13 years ago, a Dutch company called Endemol invented a reality show called "Big Brother"...

I'm sure you get now a new picture of the situation, Right?

Regards and, of course, Amsterdam prevails ;-)
