¡Al fin! El reportaje fotográfico "Paquito en las afueras" será publicado en breve (ya está todo preparado: 147 fotografías de la zona donde vivo :-)).
Mientras tanto, temprano hoy domingo, me dispongo a contaros qué está sucediendo por este pequeño lugar en el que vivo, por aquello de mantener el hilo de la eterna telenovela holandesa, dónde sólo nos falta de pronto que aparezca una ex que murió en un extraño accidente de avión diciendo que soy el padre de sus gemelos, muy pelirrojos los dos (para darle más dramatismo al asunto :-)).
"Madrid"... Creo que todo está yendo bien por allí abajo: nuestras visitantes fueron recibidas por una de nuestras ilustres lectoras y me consta que ha hecho un esfuerzo enorme en todo el proceso (ACTUALIZACIÓN: acabo de recibir un e-mail suyo explicándome todos los pormenores de la actividad... WOW!).
Desde aquí, un enorme "Gracias" a "A" por todo: mándame en un emilio tu dirección física que te haré llegar un regalito (te lo has ganado corazón :-)).
¿Qué tiene Madrid de especial? Precisamente eso: hacer algo así :-))
Ayer fue un día genial: me levanté a las 6 de la mañana y me puse a revisar correos y tomar acción sobre algunos temas pendientes... El día anterior tuve una revelación: me apetecía un montón hacerme un brunch (un tipo de almuerzo que mezcla desayuno y comida) pero, como me levanté tan temprano, finalmente decidí adelantarlo...
Así que, a las 8 de la mañana, Paquito se dispuso a prepararse "el desayuno de los campeones" donde no faltó de nada y, para preocupación de algunos, tampoco sobró nada...
Tremendo: tengo que hacerlo más a menudo :-))
Un ratito más tarde, al quedarme solo en casa, siento un antojo tremendo y, sin prisa pero sin pausa, empecé a llenar la bañera con agua caliente y algunos productos para darme un baño "legendario"...
No sé cuanto tiempo pasé en el agua... Sólo sé que salí completamente relajado... Tengo que hacerlo más a menudo :-))
Ya vestido, siento "la llamada de la selva" y enfilo hacia el Metro para llegar a mi siguiente destino, mi bestia negra, el lugar donde, junto con IKEA, literalmente me vuelvo loco...
Al llegar, me paso por la zona Apple y miro un par de cosillas... Me acuerdo de Hopkins en todo momento: hoy sus criterios serán clave para el éxito de la "Operación Netbook 2.0".
Hace unos meses, no sé si lo recordáis, compré un pequeño ordenador para trastear y hacer cosillas: fue justo antes de que la manzana acabara conquistando mi corazón y mi mente y, como fue el primero que compré (para probarlo y demás) tampoco presté mucha atención a las especificaciones técnicas...
Un ex-compañero de trabajo (que está ahora mismo viajando por Latinoamérica) necesitaba una Netbook para su viaje y, como regalo de despedida, decidí dársela, preparada con la tecnología que a mi me gusta (le metí Ubuntu 9.04 Mid Edition)...
El Mac es fantástico: tanto, que me aburre... Apenas puedo trastear con él: todo funciona, no sólo bien, sino que en la forma en la que esperas que lo haga (intuitivo y diseñado para hácertelo fácil: sólo el sistema de ayuda es para ponerse a besar la pantalla de lo maravillosamente bien hecho que está)...
Pero echo de menos "trastear": podría instalarle Windows al Mac pero quiero una máquina dedicada, un "banco de pruebas" donde también pueda instalar Linux, FreeBSD... Algo donde, si hago algo tremendamente mal (como jugar con los formatos de particiones de discos), no pase nada...
Y ahí es donde, gracias a mi segundo sensei informático (el primero fue Marcos, hispano-alemán: él me enseñó los secretos más profundos de Windows e incluso me dejó mi primera distribución de Linux en el año 2000, la cual sería instalada justo el primer día que empecé a trabajar en...), el Señor Hopkins, al llegar a la sección de informática en el MediaMarkt, sólo tuve en mi cabeza 3 criterios:
- Intel Atom Z530 (procesador de bajo consumo).
- Mínimo 10 pulgadas de pantalla (para que no sea demasiado pequeño).
- Batería de 6 celdas (para que tenga más horas de autonomía).
Hopkins habría estado orgulloso de mi: mi búsqueda fue absolutamente racional, aunque también tuve en cuenta el aspecto (si te vas a comprar algo, a parte de la mera funcionalidad, es bueno que realmente el objeto te guste, que el uso sea agradable :-))...
Y justo en ese momento, apareció ante mi: 11.6 pulgadas de pantalla, teclado amplio y cómodo, muy ligero de peso y casi 8 horas de autonomía (tengo que averiguar cómo: hasta ahora el máximo que he visto en el sistema han sido 6 horas)...
Después de volver a casa y empezar con el ritual de instalar/desinstalar software en el nuevo bichito, salgo corriendo hacia Amsterdam para disfrutar de una estupenda cena en uno de los restaurantes que más me gusta de esta ciudad. Agradable compañía, ambiente y comida hacen que la velada sea estupenda, salvo por un problema con uno de los comensales que, de pronto, no se sintió bien (no fue la comida: al parecer venía de antes)...
Por último, ya apunto de terminar el día, presento el bichito a mis compañeras de piso, las cuales también se rinden ante él (es que es una joyita :-)).
¿Y hoy? Pues hoy ha tocado IKEA: he ido a comprar una mesa para mi habitación, así podré trabajar en ella, en lugar de estar tumbado en la cama mientras escribo (así pasa, que me quedo dormido a la mínima de cambio)...
Fin de semana completo: me siento bien, todo va más o menos sobre plan. En Julio, si todo va bien, tendré viaje...
Es la hora de ver la Catedral de San Basilio de cerca :-))
Eso es todo: Amsterdam prevalece.

Meanwhile, today, I want to write you about what is going on in this small place where I live, this weird an eternal Dutch soap opera, where I am just missing that, all of a sudden, an ex-wife, who died in a strange airplane crash, appears in scene by saying that I am the father of her twins, both of them red hair (to make it more dramatic :-)).
"Madrid" ... I think everything is going well down there, since our visitors were received by one of our illustrious readers and I know she has made a huge effort throughout the process (UPDATE: I just received an e-mail from her explaining all the details of the activity... WOW!).
From here, a huge "Thank You" to "A" for everything: please send me your details to send you a present (you're a sweetheart: thank you so much :-)).
What is special about Madrid? Precisely that: crazy things just happen :-))
Yesterday was a great day: I got up at 6 am and I started to check emails and take action on some outstanding issues... The previous day I had a revelation: I wanted to do a lot a brunch (a type of mixed meal combining breakfast and lunch), but as I got up so early, I finally decided to advance it...
So, at 8 am, Paquito was ready to prepare the "Breakfast of Champions", where nothing was missed anything and, for some concern, nothing was left...
Unbelievable: I have to do it more often :-))
A little bit later, as I was home alone, I feel a tremendous craving and, slowly but surely, I began to fill the bathtub with hot water and some bath products to have a "legendary" bath...
I do not know how long I stayed in the water ... I only know that I got out completely relaxed... I have to do it more often :-))
Once I was dressed, I felt "the call of the jungle" and rowed to the Metro to get to my next destination, my black beast, the place where, together with IKEA (from where I just arrived), I literally go crazy...
Upon arrival, I was passing through the Apple area and checked a couple of things ... Hopkins was on my mind during the whole process: his criteria would be key to succeed on "Operation Netbook 2.0".
A few months ago, I do not know if you remember, I bought a small computer to do some stuff: it was just before Apple conquered my mind and heart, and it was the first netbook I bought, so I did not pay too much attention to the technical specifications ...
A former co-worker (who is now traveling through Latin America) needed a Netbook, and as a farewell gift, I decided to give him mine, ready with the technology that I like (I installed Ubuntu 9.04 Mid Edition on it)...
The Mac is great: so great that it's boring... I can barely improve anything: it works not only well, but in the way you expect to do so (it has been designed to be intuitive and easy: just the help menus setup is so so so so well done that you really feel like kissing the screen) ...
But I miss "to play with DLL Hell": I could install Windows into the Mac but I want a dedicated machine, a "sandbox" where I can also install Linux, FreeBSD ... Something where, if I do something terribly wrong (like playing with disk partition formats) nothing important will be eliminated...
That is where, thanks to my second computer sensei (the first was Marcos, Spanish-German: he taught me the deepest secrets of Windows and even left me my first Linux distribution in 2000, which would be installed just the first day I started working for...), Mr. Hopkins, I managed to reach MediaMarkt's computer section with 3 main criteria in my head:
- Intel Atom Z530 (low voltage processor).
- Minimum 10-inch screen (not to be too small).
- 6-cell battery (so the battery last longer).
Hopkins would have been proud of me: my search was quite rational, but I took into account the appearance (if you're going to buy something, apart from the mere functionality, it's really good that you also like the object and it is pleasant to use as well :-))...
And just at that moment, it appeared before me: 11.6-inch screen, big and comfortable keyboard, light and almost 8 hours of battery life (I don't know how: until now the best I've seen in the system have been 6 hours but I'll found out :-)) ...
After returning home to kick-off the install / uninstall software protocol on my new toy, I left again running to Amsterdam, aiming to enjoy a wonderful dinner at my favorite restaurant in this city. Pleasant company, amazing environment, everything ready to enjoy a fantastic evening, except for a problem with one of the guests, who suddenly did not feel well (it was not because of the food: apparently it came from before) ...
Finally, and right before finishing the day, my housemates met my new toy and, the same as me, they did fell in love with it (it's a jewel :-)).
And today? Well today it was IKEA time: I went to buy a table for my room, so I can work in the right position, instead of lying down in bed as I type (having, as a result, that I fall asleep at the slightest ocasion) ...
Full weekend: I feel great, everything goes more or less on plan. In July, if everything goes well, I will travel ...
It's about time to see St. Basil's Cathedral :-))
That's it: Amsterdam prevails.
