Buenas,

"¿Gratis? ¡No jodas!"

Amsterdam Prevalece...

----------------- English Version ------------------

Hi,

I have just come to arrive: last night I barely slept 3 hours and at 6 am I was already woken up. I had two days with job interviews, knowing people from various parts of the world and trying to analyze and understand how each of these differences can help me to find my beloved job position...

Yesterday's interview was very well: as usual, they told me that I was out of the scale but I got to explain them that, more than the things you can do today, the important thing is the potential of the person in a medium-term future and what he is able to offer (they loved it: I saw it in their eyes) ...

The interview today was something else different: I have been discussing and talking for around 3 hours about all sorts of things but I think I did it well... In just 4 days I have understood the complexity of a sector (which name I will not say) and each of the different particularities that owns...

The case study was the most interesting thing: I decided to take the risk, so I did a presentation "Paquito's Style": I think it went well (I think one of the people in the room secretly took a picture from one of my slides) ... Two people in the courtroom seemed to agree with the things I was saying (the third was a role-played person playing as an important client)...

They boiled me with questions but It was great: after many years doing some presentations, I know how to handle arguments and setbacks. Some of the questions were very difficult but I managed to get ahead, being able to continue explaining what I had prepared while showing to the attendees the work I have done: in just four days I was able to speak on behalf of a company with the self-confidence of someone that it's been working for them for months...

I do not know how things are going to be but I did what I could: I can not blame myself for anything except for the illusion that I feel what I feel...

All of this may seem important but in reality it is not: a friend called me yesterday because he felt bad (Phase 2 on expat's life: the emotional roller coaster begins) ...

I had things to do (such as preparing the presentation: I stayed until 3 am working on it) but I decided that this was important so, therefore, as I heard his voice, I told him "I'm going right now to your place" ... I put my laptop into my bag, I ride the bike and, in just a few minutes, I was at his house talking to him and giving it all I think that a person trully seeks when suffering that situation: understanding ...

Throughout this story, moreover, one may find interesting things: the world is very small and this city is so too... Suddenly I realize I see the same faces in the same places and I feel that my anonymity is fading: if there is something I truly valorate in my life is the ability to feel alone when I want to feel like that and, in this city, I think I'm losing it... This city is lonely, as is the entire country as a whole, but I am beginning to realize that I'm meeting too many people on the street, the tram or at some coffee...

And the world is still very small when, during yesterday's interview, once they were showing an organizational chart of the company where I was, I could not stop laughing when I saw that name...

Despite all of this, I always try to see the bright side of things: in a certain sense, some things in my life have changed. Valuable lessons learned from some people had made that things are no longer what they were... I try to be better through my actions, through my smile, through that small impact I can do to try to change the world, because that is one of my vital objectives: to try to make the world a different place in the measure my modest possibilities...

You may think that all this talk is useless... You may be right: I do not dare to say you the opposite. But, just think for a moment that, today, once again, a friendly receptionist has been talking with me and had crossed her fingers while wishing that I should get the job or, how the bus driver that, in the morning wished me luck and told me how to reach my destination, or simply how the taxi driver that bring me back to the station (there are bus strikes and they do not operate for certain periods of time today) explained to me the different areas the city where I was has and how he recommended me some places where I finally could go to live if I have to move there...

And that, believe me, is the result of what I do believe: by the power of a smile, while living, I will conquer the universe ...

Well, that and that when the bus driver, this morning, did not stung the strippenkart (because they are on strike) he learned a nice phrase in Spanish that he and other passengers will recall for some time:

"¿Gratis? ¡No jodas!"

Amsterdam prevails ...

  2. Estimada Saltamontes,

    Paquito.
