En el Aeropuerto / At the Airport

English below (just look for the blue text),

Cuantos tecno-adictos has visto que usen talla M?

---------------- English Version ------------------

It was 9:00 AM when I left my house, running to avoid unexpected situations (Murphy's law exists for some reason) ...

Of course, Murphy, who has a weird fixation with me, acted immediately: the Metro was broken (The Metro thing is impressive in this country: the most devastating system I've seen in my life) ...

But after a tense 20 minutes wait, the Metro appeared and, with it, my trip home ...

Already at the airport, as I give "The Show" in the gates, when security ask me whether I have electronic equipment with me...

2 laptops, 2 external hard drives I don't know how many games cables, USB sticks and more later, I said, but not before smiling, "I like technology a little bit"...

Already in the boarding area, I start to walk and go shopping ... I saw a t-shirt perfect for Mr. Hopkins, but unfortunately there was not one suitable for his size (Hopkins is "big": big bones and has an irregular distribution of mass muscle :-)).

Who the hell are you going to sell shirts with wireless sensing "M" Size to ? Since when geeks use M Size? These are the weird things in this country (I just don't get it) ...

There is a Starbucks and I'd like to take a coffee... Unfortunately, I do not know the reason why of the Amsterdam's Airport Starbucks coffee (there are 2: one outside and one inside the boarding area) is disgusting "with greed"...

But when I saw the technology shop, then I realized where I had to go ...

And, for the next 15 minutes, I played with a beautiful aluminum computer whose software is based on UNIX (FreeBSD to be precise) ...

If all goes well, within a couple of days, it will be in my hands ...

Two passengers look at me as I write these words, I decide to show them my gadget (my little ASUS EEE PC) ...

One of them has a BlackBerry Storm, and then I tell him that, in Madrid, I maybe will buy an iPhone ...

"I'm going to go with a friend who knows where they sell it unlocked" ...

The sentence stops in there when, suddenly, Sergio appears in front of me... He's precisely the person I was talking about ...

I had completely forgotten that he was coming for the weekend ... On Monday, I'll have lunch with him: the last time I saw him was 2 years ago...

Amazing: the world is very small ...

Already on the plane (from where I write now), I see the "cloud fields" (I made the name up: I do not know if there's a technical name) ... Whenever I travel by plane and, when possible, I like to watch those endless white cloud fields... it relaxes me for a reason that I can't explain...

Behind me, two passengers (one Dutch and one English) talks about Spain ... The English guy do not know our country and the Dutch one seems to... It is interesting to hear talk to two foreigns about such an interesting...

Beside me, a passenger who has not even looked at me since we sat down, read The Economist while I write my thoughts: I am curious to see how the things are going "down there" ... It was 14 months ago the last time I was at home and, above all, I am curious to hear the new linguistic uses (sure there is a lot of new slang and I have catch up to learn it) ...

The commander start talking about the flight... The first part (in Spanish) is fine but... Once he switch to English... to be brief: it was sad (did not even know how to say "twenty to three" in English) ...

I see things did not changed that much :-))

In the coming days I want to rest and, above all, relax ... I will publish some things, but most of all, I will publish my feelings...

Coming home: the country that I love and hate with 75% of my heart (the other 25%, as you may know, is still in Germany, hoping that some day I will return for it) ...

That's it: "Brussels prevails" (we're flying over it right now :-)).

  2. Estimado Borjemon:

    Paquito.
